Marshall Joyce art exhibition
Sunday June 14th from 2 to 6 PM
A Kingston artist, Marshall Joyce (1912-1988) is best known for his seascapes, ships, landscapes and coastal scenes. His studio from 1947 to 1988 was located on River Street in Kingston on the banks of the Jones River, just down the road from Jones River Landing. In the Fall of 2008 the Town of Kingston acquired a portion of his estate and established the Marshall Joyce Wildlife Sanctuary. The Landing is hosting this exhibition in honor of Marshall Joyce and his contribution to the arts in Kingston in advance of the Kingston Arts Festival (June 27), to celebrate the Landing's acquisition of the historic Holmes/Watson boatyard on Landing Road, which is featured prominently in one of Joyce's works to be displayed, and the establishment of the wildlife sanctuary. The unique exhibition will feature a number of works depicting Jones River and Kingston scenes from the private collections of friends, family and other local residents which are not often available for public viewing.
