Kingston Reporter photos
Thanks to all who made our Thanksgiving Reception Fundraiser a success! We had a blast and it looked like all who attended did too. Keep your eyes out for photos in the Patriot Ledger and the Kingston Reporter, as well as online here in our Gallery, above.
We would like to especially thank our volunteers and our generous donors. Solstice supplied delicious appetizers, L Knife provided cases of beer, and Snug Harbor Fish Market donated shrimp cocktail. In addition our loyal members and directors added best in the world oysters, fabulous corn chowder, and abundant wine and desserts. For the silent auction, Saquish Anglers offered a fishing trip, Undo Clothing donated a surfing lesson, Billington Sea Kayak gave 2 PFDs and 4 kayak/canoe rentals. Foodies of Duxbury and Walters Specialty Food both supplied lovely gift baskets. And a huge thanks to Mike Cazale of MT Oysters for shucking some 300 oysters!
Come celebrate our "Thanksgiving Reception" fundraiser with us here at the Landing on Thursday November 13! Join us at 7 pm for the world's finest oysters, wine & beer, and music by Boston songstress
Miss Tess . There will be short presentations on the Landing and its accomplishments, delectable nibbles, good company and local luminaries, as well as a silent auction and store items for sale just in time to do a little holiday shopping. Tickets will cost $35 in advance if reserved by November 12th ($40 at the door) and will be for sale online through donation button below. They may also be purchased at the Jones River Landing, 55 Landing Rd, in Kingston, or by sending a check to Jones River Landing, PO Box 73, Kingston, MA 02364.
Over the past few years many wonderful developments have taken place at the Jones River Landing Environmental Heritage Center. Weve developed environmental restoration and educational programs, transformed the Landing into a dynamic center for the community with a membership base of over 500, restored the historic Shiverick Boatshop and offered boat restoration programs through the Mass Bay Maritime Artisans, and purchased another part of Kingstons boatbuilding history, the Holmes/Watson boatyard. This boatbuilding site has a rich presence on the river as the workshop of Nate Watson, one of the early designers of the famed Kingston Lobster Boat. Preserving this historic landmark will provide needed public access to the river, expand the Jones River historic district, and allow us to protect important riverfront areas as well as restore salt marsh habitats.
Our efforts to restore the Jones River have been recognized on the state and federal level, but we are still a small organization with a mission important to us all. At the Landing we work to promote and encourage environmental restoration, preserve our maritime heritage, and develop resources to sustain our communities and address climate change. It is the generous financial support from individuals, businesses, and volunteer contributions that have enabled us to establish the Landing as an important asset on the community landscape. In these difficult financial times we are grateful for the support that has brought us to this place, and invite everyone to join us at our Thanksgiving Reception, contribute to the purchase of the Holmes /Watson property, and help us continue and expand public programs.
Come on November 13th to enjoy the famed oysters straight out of Duxbury Bay and other delicious bites while browsing the silent auction and store items for holiday presents. Sip locally brewed beer or wine while grooving to the Miss Tess trioThe next Boston-area musical sensation" claims Boston Magazine; The voice of a different era according to the Boston Globe. Rub shoulders with the local luminaries including our very own Pine duBois, this years recipient of the Environmental League of Massachusetts Green Star Award, and learn what the Landings been doing recently and the plans for the future.
Reservations will cost $35 in advance ($40 at the door) and will be for sale online at www.jonesriver.org or by purchase at the Jones River Landing, 55 Landing Rd, in Kingston. Please visit our website or call us at 781-585-2322 for more information. We hope to see you there!
