Governor Murray to strengthen the state's laws so we aren’t forced to subsidize biomass incinerators that pollute our air, destroy our forests, and worsen climate change. We will be delivering thousands of petitions and post cards to the Patrick Administration from residents around the state.

Hosted by the Town of Duxbury Nuclear Advisory Committee and Duxbury Emergency Management Agency in response to concerns arising from the ongoing disaster at Pilgrim's sister reactors in Fukushima Japan. If you know nothing about nuclear power or the potential threats we face as a broader Boston community, it is even more of a reason for you to attend! Please pass the word on.

Nuclear Expert Panel:
- Dave Lochbaum: Director Nuclear Safety Project Union of Concerned Scientists; formerly NRC; nuclear reactor operator for 17 years; consultant;  one of the nation's top independent experts on nuclear power; widely published; and frequently invited to testify before Congress.
- Dr. Gordon Thompson: Director Institute for Resource and Security Studies; nationally/internationally respected expert on spent fuel pool issues; currently an expert witness for the Mass. Attorney General on Pilgrim’s spent fuel pool and NY Attorney General; extensive list of clients and publications.
- Arnold Gundersen: Energy advisor, 39 years of nuclear power engineering experience; former nuclear industry senior vice president and licensed reactor operator; appointed first Chair by the Legislature of the Vermont Yankee Nuclear Power Plant Oversight Panel; expert witness numerous licensing cases, including Pilgrim on leaks buried pipes/tanks and the unfiltered vent system.
- Paul Blanch: Electrical engineer with 45 years of nuclear power experience; formerly Navy submarine reactor operator and instructor; named “nuclear engineer of the year;” currently an expert witness in Pilgrim’s, Seabrook’s and Indian Point’s License renewal proceedings.
- Entergy Representative (waiting confirmation): A representative from Entergy has been invited.
- Chief Kevin Nord of the Duxbury Fire Department will be available to answer any specific questions regarding emergency planning.

The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) will meet with the public to discuss the NRC's assessment of safety performance at Pilgrim Nuclear Power Station for 2010, as described in the annual assessment letter dated March 4, 2011. The NRC will respond to questions on specific performance issues at the plant and our role in ensuring safe plant operations.

- Introduction
- Discussion of Pilgrim Nuclear Power Station performance in 2010 (10 minutes)
- Discussion of U.S. plant safe operation in light of Japan event (10 minutes)
- NRC to address public questions (as needed)
- Closing Remarks (5 minutes)

Major victory for ilovemountains.org!

The EPA has suspended permits for mountaintop removal coal mining operations until it can evaluate their impact on our nation's streams and wetlands. It's a major first step towards ending mountaintop removal and creating a new and green economy in Appalachia. Congrats to ilovemountains!

With a focus on both residential and commercial buildings, this session will help those considering renewable energy for their home or business or for those considering a career in renewable energy. The session will cover technology, rebates and tax incentives, and project management.Talk begins at 7pm. Suggested donation $3 members/ $5 nonmembers.

Fred's most recent projects include the photovoltaic system at Sacred Heart High School, and a unique 5000-watt pole-mounted residential system.
