Riverways Instream Flow Stewards

Riverways Instream Flow Stewards (RIFLS), with assistance from the Riverways Program and JRWA, is undertaking daily monitoring of the flow in several tributaries to the Jones River.

We have managed to maintain a modest level of effort for the River and Instream Flow Stewards from 2005-2007, though we are in serious need of additional volunteers. This very simple project requires reading and recording staff gages (think yard sticks) in a few of the headwater streams. This valuable information helps us to provide data to a statewide system that is attempting to develop hydrographs for the smaller streams in Massachusetts.

The process requires recording data on a website that can be accomplished from the comfort of home. The result is the compilation of interesting data that will help us to restore the natural flow regime to our suffering rivers and streams. Please consider helping on this rewarding, important project. Check out the website www.rifls.org, (click on South Coastal).
